In 2008 I spent 6 months in Bielefeld, Germany. This is a topographical study of the city. To avoid inflicting
the photographs with my own interpretational bias of being a tourist in the city, i used the most common piece of street
furniture to dictate when i should make an exposure, and adhered to this set of rules:
- Take photograph whenever a cigarette machine is present on the street.
- Stand 15 steps away from and directly opposite the machine.
- Take the photograph with the camera at head height and level.
- Frame the photograph so the machine is in the centre of the frame.
- The machine is the centre of focus.
- Wait till the machine is not obstructed and passers by are out of the frame.
- Shoot photographs between 11am and 3pm on sunny days.
- Use Makina Plaubel 67w camera, kodak 160vc film and F8.
